Jeremy Tan, born in Penang, received his first music lessons at an early age before he began playing the clarinet at age ten. His principal teachers include Isabelle Chan and Philip Arkinstall. Besides that, he studied chamber music with Yasufumi Shimano and Saori Ninomiya.
As an orchestral musician, he was principal clarinettist of the Penang State Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (PESSOC) and the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO).
As a musician of Ensemble Koschka, a chamber ensemble group, he actively performs chamber works and recitals. Together with the group, he has performed yearly in concert tours in Japan from 2010 to 2013. He also plays the cello in Kester String Quartet.
